Rails we support

A rail is the system the money moved on. It decides which rules govern the dispute, how long Casap has, and whether there is a counterparty to recover from. The member sees one intake and one timeline whatever the rail; the differences are Casap's to handle.

Debit card, credit card, ATM, ACH, check and transfer disputes enter one intake and one investigation. Resolution follows the rail: network chargeback for cards, a return or adjustment for ACH and checks, a written decision for transfers.
Rail Networks Rules How Casap resolves it
Debit card Visa, Mastercard Regulation E, network rules Investigation; network chargeback when the evidence supports it.
Debit card, PIN and regional Pulse, STAR, Accel, Maestro Regulation E, network rules Investigation; network chargeback where your processor supports it.
Credit card Visa, Mastercard Regulation Z, network rules Investigation; network chargeback when the evidence supports it.
ATM Allpoint and the card's network Regulation E Investigation; network adjustment where available.
ACH Nacha Regulation E, Nacha operating rules Investigation; ACH return within the return window.
Check The paying bank UCC Articles 3 and 4, Regulation CC Investigation; return or adjustment through the paying bank where the rules allow.
Transfer (P2P) None Regulation E Investigation; written decision.

Check disputes are opened by Casap through Casap-initiated intake; the self-service transaction list does not carry checks today.

What the rail changes

The clock. Regulation E and Regulation Z set when a provisional credit is due and when the investigation must end. Network, Nacha and check rules set the filing windows. Casap tracks all of them per transaction.

The recovery. Card networks give Casap a chargeback process with representment and arbitration. ACH and checks give a return window. A transfer has neither, so the decision rests on the investigation alone.

The questions. Get Dispute Reasons and Get Questionnaire already return the reasons and questions that fit the rail of the selected transactions. You do not branch on the rail yourself.

Mixing rails

One dispute covers one rail and, for cards, one card. A selection that mixes them fails the Eligibility Check with RAIL_MISMATCH or CARD_MISMATCH, and the member splits it into two disputes.
